Question...

This is the Alseda stool from IKEA. I like the idea of stacking about 3 of these in the corner of our family room in the event that we have guests over and need extra seating.
I was wondering, do you think I can paint it? On the website it says the main components are banana leaves and clear acrylic lacquer. What do you think?

I think it probably CAN be painted but because of all the nooks and crannies, its going to be a major pain in the you know what.

Sorry I dont have much more info on you. I sort of in the anti wicker camp so I don't have any personal experience with the material. I could be totally wrong.

I would think it probably could, and as long as you wouldn't mind putting forth the effort, I'd say go for it.

Like Mrs. Limestone said, the nooks and crannies will make it a little time consuming and drying may be varied.

I'd ask someone from IKEA.

If you and I have learned anything in our years together, ANYTHING can be painted! I agree with the previous two comments; it will be a lot of work. The surface looks porous and if it is made of banana leaves and acrylic, then my guess the material itself is waxy and won't hold the paint very well. You might have to spray paint it which might make it tacky (texture wise).... but I'll help if you do it!
