Inventing My Color Wheel

This Fall we're planning on tackling the inside of the house now that our first year outside projects have been crossed off the list. Right now the whole house is white, complete with white tile floors, with the exception of our ever so vibrant early 90s style bathrooms (more on that later). So first thing we want to do is begin adding some personality to the space with paint.

Ah, I love paint, so many possibilities. Which means that I usually spend an absurd about of time staring at paint swatches in the paint store, and usually end up tossing half of them by the time I get home. I was playing on the Sherwin Williams site the other day and discovered their little Chip It function, which allows you to create a color palette with any photo you like. It sort of works like your Pin It button for Pinterest. Best part is, they include the paint colors, awesome! Now I can just go to the store and grab those paint samples without staring blankly at the swatch wall.

Since we're starting with the master bedroom, I went straight to my Bedroom board on Pinterest and created some color inspiration pics with Chip It. This house has a cozy, ocean-side vibe going for it, so I'm planning on using a soothing color palette of blues, greens, grays, whites, blacks, with some color pops here and there. For the bedroom, I'm all about moody colors...

Looks like a yummy soft, ocean-like area rug is in my near future. I also found some beautiful ocean images on Pinterest that created some beautiful color palettes that I'm loving too...

Yes, yes, and yes. An image like one of these would look really pretty as a big print above the bed like in the second bedroom image above.

My mind is now swirling with paint color options. I'm hoping to stop by the paint store this week and start narrowing down my options. Do you have any favorites?

It's a Dandelion!

Looks like my dandelion recreation was a success! With a some white acrylic paint and a couple of brushes that I found in the discount bin at Michael's Craft Store, I was able to replicate the Etsy dandelion wall decal for my sister's room. We opted for white since her walls are painted a taupe-grayish color and all of the furniture is a dark espresso brown

It's the weekend...commence happy dance!

It's finally Friday again and I am ready for the weekend. This week went by pretty fast and was actually kind of fun. I tried 3 new recipes, all healthy and got the thumbs up from the husband. We officially started an exercise routine to help burn off that post-newlywed jiggle and a couple projects that I have been meaning to get done are now officially checked off the list!

One of the biggest items on my list was to organize the bathroom cabinets. For the past 5 months the space underneath my sink looks like a Tasmanian devil rummaged through it leaving behind nothing but a big, unorganized mess. So, Monday night I dedicated it to taking out everything I had and organizing it. I bought some totes at Bed Bath and Beyond and labeled each one with a category for easy rummaging: Makeup, Hair & Body, and "Lady Essentials". Basically everything from my eye-liners to lip glosses needed their own tote, hair sprays and body lotions went together, and the "lady essentials" basically were made up of items for when "Aunt Flo" comes to visit. I used some pretty glass jars that I had sitting around the house to store bobby pins, head bands, and hair ties. All in all, now I can spend an extra couple of minutes sleeping rather than rummaging through the cabinet in the morning.

This weekend my mom and I are surprising my sister by redecorating her room. Right now the little slacker is in Puerto Rico with my dad and some friends, so we are taking advantage that she's not here. One of the projects that I'm most excited about is recreating this wall decal that we found on Etsy:

Instead of ordering the decal, I volunteered my services and plan on painting it on the wall by hand. I figured with a little pencil and brown paint, I should be able to recreate it...I let you know how it goes.

Have a great weekend and I will see you all on Monday!

The wheels are turning...

This weekend was a very productive weekend, we managed to finish painting! Yey! The last two rooms in the house were painted, the home office bathroom and the guest room. So, now that they are freshly painted it is time to ACCESSORIZZZZZZE! (Insert finger snap here)

First off is the home office bathroom. The reason why I started with this room is because my husband begged me to go out and decorate it because right now it's totally bare. For the home office and bathroom, this was my inspiration:
I know what you're thinking, "It's a living room, how can you apply it to an office and a bathroom?". Well, what I loved about this picture are the colors! So for the bathroom, I opted to paint it a warm vanilla color and plan to use black, tan , and green as the main colors. Right now, the bathroom is basically white walls on white tile...it desperately needs some love. Instead of working, I decided to put all of my ideas down on paper and sketch exactly what I wanted to do in the room, thanks to my trusty scanner here it is: Unfortunately, my Paint program wouldn't let me add color, so bare with me. During lunch, I decided to take a little stroll around Target to see what they had and was pleasantly surprised. I decided to add a little drama by using an all black shower curtain, I found this one for $19.99: The one thing that was stumping me was how to incorporate the tan, then I found a great runner that will run the length of the bathroom. I couldn't find the exact one online, but it looks like this with some tan decoration in the black border for $29.99:
Next up, the wall. The ceiling in the bathroom is pretty tall, so I'm think of emphasizing it by putting 4 frames long-wise down the wall. Inside the frames, I'm plan on putting bright green large leaves that I can buy in the fake flower section at our local craft store, probably Michael's. I can most likely find the frames there too. I'm thinking something like this:

Last, you see that flower pot looking thing on the ledge above the toilet? I'm thinking of recreating the look of the flowers on the coffee table in my inspiration picture and putting it on that little ledge. Basically using a rectangular black flower box and some fake green little plants.
So there it is, my master plan. Hopefully it will be finished by the end of the week so that I can post a picture and you can see the end result...wish me lots of decorating pixie dust!

Victory!

This weekend my husband and I decided to finally paint our master bedroom and bath. If a couple has never truly worked together before, I suggest painting a room together. Not only does it do the obvious, which is allow you to spend time together, but it gives a little insight into the inner workings of your significant other. Not only did I learn that my dear husband is very organized and has a specific way of doing things, he has the extraordinary ability to keep on working and cleaning even though his wife is almost passed out on the bedroom floor from exhaustion mumbling, "No more...the room wins!"

So in the end, we managed to get the two rooms done, and it looks spectacular if I do say so myself! At first we were a little nervous about the color choices mainly because they were made spur of the moment under the dismal Home Depot lights. Originally we picked out two colors from one manufacturer, upon walking into the store all giddy about our color choices, the bubble was quickly burst when our paint dude shook his head with disapproval and advised that we go with the ever durable Behr paint. In a frenzy the Mango and I tried to match our beloved color swatches as closely as possible. In the end, the colors weren't exact, in fact they had a little more of a green tone than we expected, however we loved them!
Currently, I am in curtain mode. Yes, I have entered the world of panels, draperies, and sheers. To be honest, I had no idea where to start. The curtains always magically appeared when I lived with my parents, so I started my journey for blackout curtains on my own. Thanks to my ever helpful Nesties, I came to learn that a great place for blackout, or as they are now called, thermal curtains, was JCPenny! Who knew? Usually I run right passed it to get to the mall, but I was amazed by their selection and great prices. After taking an impromptu "curtains for dummies" course from the curtain lady, I finally selected our bedroom curtains...Ta Daaaaaa!

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Wendy thermals in Ivory! Yey! I know it's crazy that I'm excited over curtains, but what can I say, I'm weird.

So now that that's over, I'm looking at every site I can to get inspiration on making the space ours and I happened to stumble upon this fantastic side called HousetoHome. It is just filled with pictures of beautiful spaces, I almost had to do a jig in the middle of the office (yes, I'm doing this at work) from the excitement of the find. I found these wonderful bedroom inspiration pics that I just had to share:
